What is Walking in This World?

Walking in This World is the second book in The Artist’s Way series, a time-tested process for creative recovery and growth created by writer Julia Cameron.

The focus of the program is creative discovery and wonder.

The goal is to take the next step on the path to unlocking your creative potential. It uses a set of core tools (morning pages, artist dates and weekly walks), supported by reading and reflection exercises.

As a qualified hypnotherapist and coach, I have extensive training and experience supporting those on a journey of self-exploration and personal development.

I’m Francesca, an artist, therapist & coach

My approach is supportive, encouraging, and insightful. I provide a non-judgemental space for exploration and development.

I help my clients heal and grow so they may flourish and enjoy calm, authentic, and joyful lives.

I have walked my own journey to discover and recover my creativity, and now I support others to do the same.

What you’ll need

Before the program begins, purchase or find a copy of Walking in This World: Practical Strategies for Creativity by Julia Cameron. A digital or printed copy is fine, whichever you prefer. This will not be provided.

It’s recommended for you to have a dedicated notebook or journal, and something to write with.

In order to connect for the weekly calls, you’ll need a computer or device with Zoom installed.

Frequently Asked Questions

When does the program begin?

The program begins on Tuesday, 7 May 2024.

The first live call is on Tuesday, 7 May 2024 at 5pm BST / 12pm ET / 9am PT.

How many live sessions will there be?

We’ll meet for thirteen live sessions on Tuesdays, starting on 7 May 2024.

What happens in the live sessions?

Each session will last 60 minutes and will include a reflection on the week that has just been completed plus special activities related to the theme and topics of the week.

Do I have to be an artist to participate?

The process can benefit anyone interested in getting in touch with their creativity.

How much time will it take?

Daily, set aside 20 to 30 minutes early in the day for a writing activity called the morning pages.

Weekly, set aside 1 to 2 hours for reading and exercises in the book, and 1 to 2 hours for your artist date. Set aside 30 minutes to an hour for your weekly walk. On the final day of each week, plan to spend around 20 minutes for personal reflection before the group session.

The weekly live sessions will be 60 minutes.

Do I have to attend all of the sessions?

You are not required to attend all of the live sessions. Attendance and participation are encouraged.

What if I did Walking in This World before? Can I do it again?

Yes, absolutely. This group is open to those who are new to the process and those who are more experienced. If you have started the process, but not finished it before, doing it with a group could help you complete it.

What if I haven’t done The Artist’s Way before? Can I do this program?

It is not a requirement for you to have read or done The Artist’s Way. You can start here, it’s up to you.

Do I need to read the whole book in advance?

No. Each week during the 13 weeks we’ll move progressively through the reading and exercises in the book. Read the chapter and do the exercises in advance of each week’s call. We’ll discuss the highlights together.
